Best Pike Fishing Reels 2023: 6 Brilliant Pike Reels
Pike reels can effectively be split into a multitude of various categories. However, there is only one major decision you need to make when choosing a Pike reel. Do you want a lure reel or a dead bait reel?
Lure reels will be coupled with lure rods to ensure that your setup is as light as possible so you can consistently cast for long periods. Lure reels will also come in two variations, spinning or baitcaster which we’ll cover in more detail. Dead bait reels will typically be heavier and usually will be found as spinning reels. Coupled with a longer, stronger rod, you’ll be able to cast much further with a dead bait reel.
However, with the vast range of fishing products available online today, its difficult to make a definitive choice. I usually recommend for new anglers visit their local tackle shop and get some personal advice when choosing a new tackle. But this isn’t always a viable option and for those who’ve already got experience fishing, buying products online is ideal since you know what you’re looking for.
But regardless of how you decide to purchase your tackle, below we’ve compiled a list of our favorite pike reels including both spinning and baitcaster reels for lures and dead baits:

Fox Rage Prism X Size 1000
What I like about the Fox Rage Prism X Reel and the entirety of the Fox Rage line-up frankly, is the versatility. This reel comes in a variety of different sizes which makes it ideal for just about anyone who’s looking for a predator reel. This one in particular is the smallest reel from the range which makes it ideal for lure fishing.
For me, the most important factor I consider when buying a reel for lure fishing is weight. You want your setup to be as light and effective as possible. A heavy, cumbersome setup makes fishing much harder, less effective, and less enjoyable. Hence, why this reel is ideal for anyone who wants start to catching Pike with lures.
Since this is a spinning reel, it is also much better suited to new and novice anglers. Albeit, baitcasters are more efficient when lure fishing. This is because baitcasters can be tricky to use for new anglers whereas spinning reels are more straightforward and easier to work with. I wouldn’t love to use spinning reels if I was lure fishing for hours on end simply because they are typically slower and heavier. However, if you’re pleasure fishing, they will more than suffice.
Pros:
- Wide Variety Of Sizes
- Comprehensively Covers Most Fishing Situations
- Simple & Easy To Use
- Lightweight
- Couples Perfectly With Fox Rage Rods
Cons:
- Not As Efficient As Baitcaster In Regards To Lure Fishing
Advanta Baitcast LHW Fishing Reel
Without a doubt, the absolute best thing about the Advanta is its price. This reel is very reasonable even when you take into consideration that it is entry-level. But despite its low price, it remains capable and very useful to Pike anglers. Particularly, those who want to try using a baitcaster for the first time.
It is by no means the most complete or refined baitcaster but it will certainly do the job and is an excellent choice for anglers who want to try lure fishing with a baitcaster. It also comes pre-loaded with a 25lb braid which means its ready to use out of the box.
This is great for someone who wants to spend a lot of time at the bank fishing with lures. Usually, I don’t recommend novice anglers use baitcasters if they have the option to use a spinning reel simply because they don’t give much extra utility at that point. However, this baitcaster is as simple as they come, and if you’re planning on fishing intensively, it’s well worth considering.
Pros:
- Competitively priced
- Comes Pre-loaded With Line
- Comprehensively Covers Most Fishing Situations
- Simple & Easy To Use
- Lightweight
Cons:
- Difficult To Make A Case For Baitcasters To New Anglers
- Entry Level
Abu Garcia Revo Beast X
The Revo Beast X is a capable, powerful, heavy-duty reel. It’s perfect for casting larger lures and specimen Pike. You shouldn’t even have any trouble fishing for Muskellunge with the Revo Beast X. That being said, it is probably overkill for the UK and lots of Europe.
But despite its ability and strength, Abu Garcia has managed to produce the Revo Beast X in a relatively small package. It’s not tiny but certainly smaller than I anticipated for a reel of this nature (Dimensions: 16.51 x 14.22 x 8.99 cm) and lighter too. In fact, the entire reel only weighs 354 Grams which isn’t bad considering it’s a mid-sized baitcaster.
While it’s difficult to critique this reel from a performance standpoint, its easy to highlight the fact that it isn’t cheap. Quite the opposite rather. However, if money is no object and you simply want one of the most competent and refined baitcaster reels, then the Revo Beast X is certainly among the finest available.
Pros:
- Powerful & Heavy Duty
- Lightweight
- Simple To Use
Cons:
- Quite Expensive
Abu Garcia Revo4 SX
The Beast X was actually derived from the smaller and more versatile Revo4 SX. This reel in a lot of ways is more usable than the Beast X. It covers a wide variety of fishing situations incredibly well and frankly, would be a more sensible option than the Beast X unless you find yourself casting very large baits on a frequent basis.
The Revo4 SX is absolutely perfect for the vast majority of Pike fishing situations that you may encounter and gives you exceptional control when casting most baits with the brake. Whereas the Beast X would be more useful if you were casting larger baits, fishing for larger Pike, and fishing at a longer distance.
Unless you absolutely needed the extra power from the larger, more expensive, Beast X, it wouldn’t make sense to choose it over its little brother. I feel it’s more applicable to the angling that the majority of people will typically enjoy on a regular basis.
Pros:
- Compact
- Lightweight
- Simple To Use
Cons:
- Difficult To Make A Case For Baitcasters To New Anglers
Shimano Baitrunner DL Reel
The Shimano Baitrunner initially made its name in the carp fishing industry but there is no reason you couldn’t use this reel for Pike fishing when using dead baits. In fact, this would be one of my first choices. What I really love about the baitrunner is its versatility. You can buy this reel and feel confident that you’ll be able to use it all year round.
This reel is excellent for Carp fishing. It is excellent for Pike fishing. It is arguably the most important and influential rees in the industry and a best seller for a reason. I know it’s starting to sound like I’m just waxing lyrical about the reel but I wholeheartedly believe it is the best option for so many people. The drag switch is especially useful for dead bait fishing if you’re using a bite alarm.
The Baitrunner has plenty of power and is incredibly simple to use. Put simply, you buy this reel when you want something versatile, capable, and reasonably priced. I rest my case!
Pros:
- Reasonably Priced
- Highly Versatile
- Very Easy To Use
Cons:
- Poorly Suited To Lure Fishing
Fox Rage Prism X Size 4500
The 4500 is the largest reel in the Prism X range. The reason why I’ve listed this as an entirely different reel in its own right is that it has a completely different purpose than the smaller 1000 version. The Prism X 1000 is perfect for casting lures and suits a very active style of fishing. However, the 4500 is a much larger reel that is more suited for fishing with dead baits and large lures.
It carries all the great features and notable points from the rest of the range but in a larger, stronger package. This makes it perfect for anyone who likes to fish in a slightly less active style or someone who’s specifically fishing in bodies of water where there are specimen fish and the extra size and power become useful. The only other reason to opt for the largest model is if you want a little extra range in regard to casting.
Pros:
- Reasonably Priced
- Highly Versatile
- Very Easy To Use
Cons:
- More Size Means Its Heavier
